VMWare Software Updates Not Working? Here's What to Do

VMware Workstation users report that the auto update feature no longer works due to a URL redirect. It’s been two years since Broadcom bought VMware in November 2023. Since then, a few important VMware products have been shut down. Broadcom is still working on rebuilding its internal systems, and automatic updates through the repository are still not working properly.

I’m pretty sure it will never work again. It’ll likely become a slightly different product instead of the original VMware Workstation, and I think they might end up abandoning it. Only a year ago, it was possible to download releases without registration. Now, there’s only one way to do it: you need to register on the Broadcom website and confirm your email. Then, go to the Support Portal and open ‘My Dashboard’ — or you can go there directly by this link. Unfortunately, the files aren’t available directly by link or without registration.
